From September 10-24, 2016, 10 antique stores and galleries are uniting to create an event in Saint-Germain-des-Prés called Le Rendez-Vous. For this event, each gallery will showcase an exhibition of their own selections and major works. The presentation offers visitors a journey through time and space and a chance to relish some of the best artwork, jewelry, furniture and other items of our time and of time long gone.
The magical atmosphere in Saint-Germain-des-Prés will add to the festive atmosphere for this event. With the beginning of the fall weather, visitors to the galleries will walk among tree-lined streets from gallery to gallery. They can visit famous cafes along the way as well, including Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore and le Procope. Few locations can rival Paris in the fall and we, at Phoenix Ancient Art, are thrilled to share our love of Paris and our love of antiques with those who will be visiting.
For this event, we will bring our exhibition “Mnemosyne: De Chirico and Antiquity.” This is a dialogue series that pairs neoclassical paintings of de Chirico next to ancient marble statues, mosaics, bronze armor and others from the Phoenix collection. The paintings are Chirico’s work from the 1920s style, and the pairings allow for a look at how ancient classicism influences modern paintings. This unique installation has already appeared in New York and Switzerland and we are thrilled to bring it to France at this time.
Here is a sneak-peak at two of the other galleries that will be part of this remarkable event. The Christian Deydier gallery is presenting a museum collection of precious silks from the 7th and 8th centuries. Entitled “Trésors des sables d’Asie Centrale,” the collection of silks come from the Sogdians. The De Vallois gallery is bringing fifteen unique pieces of furniture by Paul Iribe that were a precursor to Art Deco.
These are a few examples of the vast array of displays that will be available to admire. Le Rendez-Vous is being presented in collaboration with the Maison Haute Joaillerie REZÉ. We at Phoenix Ancient Art, along with the other nine galleries, are excited to be part of this unique enterprise showcasing the best of many artistic talents, time periods and influences.
